We’re practicing our Lindy Hop and donning our pearls (and pleating our kilt) in anticipation of one of Washington, DC’s most glamorous annual affairs: the Chamber Dance Project gala. This year’s theme, Bash Magnifique, takes as its inspiration the classic songs of the late, great Cole Porter. Guests will be treated to the world premiere of a new work choreographed to his best hits by Chamber Dance Project Artistic Director, Diane Coburn Bruning.
Cocktails, silent auction, live music, dinner, dance performance, and merriment – who could bring that much fabulousness under one roof? None other than our dear friend, philanthropist and businesswoman Charo Abrams, who is chairing this year’s event. And with guests creatively attired in fashions inspired by 1920s-40s jazz, there will be sights and sounds to remember for years to come. Company dancers and musicians, together with guest artists Mosche Brass Band and the jazz duo of Lena Seikaly and Barry Gurley, will set the room a-dancing.
Of course, the venue must match the experience, and the Bash Magnifique will certainly rise to the occasion in the beautiful Decatur House, which is perched on Lafayette Square and neighbor to the White House. VIP guests will begin the evening mingling in the storied rooms of this historic mansion, before joining the main party in the renovated carriage house. A tented courtyard (well-heated against this late-season snow) will serve as the perfect milieu for the performances.
Fancy a bit of fun this upcoming weekend? Join Spey founding chief executive and Chamber Dance Project Board member Paul Ashe for what promises to be a most excellent evening.
