When it comes to Mother’s Day, each and every mom deserves a big hug for the support, love and guidance that they give. Being a mother is no easy task (just ask any mom with a toddler or teenager), but sometimes the role is made that much more challenging by life’s unexpected curveballs. Seven years ago local mother Jocasta Joans-Harrison was diagnosed with breast cancer, as her mother and grandmother had been before, but that didn’t stop Jocasta from staying positive and powering into remission. Today, as a proud survivor and even prouder mom, Jocasta is raising spirits and driving awareness of this disease within our community. Who could be more deserving of a makeover and a little Spey love?
This Mother’s Day, Spey teamed up with Stylisted (the on-location hair and makeup app) to celebrate mothers and the journey to a cure. Inviting Jocasta to the set of Good Morning Washington (ABC7 in the DC viewing area), Spey and Stylisted set to work pampering Jocasta with a makeover from head-to-toe. Lashes were curled, cheeks were blushed, hair was styled, and a new outfit was provided by a local Georgetown boutique. The finishing touch? Pearls, of course. Spey gave the very deserving mom a set of akoya pearl stud earrings, backed in white gold – a Spey classic. The delicate luster perfectly frames and illuminates the face with a warm, soft glow. Part of recovery is feeling like your best self again and, though we may be biased, we think pearls are the surest way to instantly feel chic.
Empowered with a bit of pearl-power, Jocasta joined thousands of other Washingtonians the following day at the Susan G. Komen Washington, D.C. Race for the Cure® – certainly an emotional weekend for Jocasta and a humbling experience for Spey. The annual event drives awareness and raises much-needed funds to support the Foundation’s mission. We are proud to work for the betterment of the community and to support a more lustrous (and cancer-free) future. What better way to celebrate life than by pampering a deserving mom?
